North Carolina location up and running

Symmetrix opened its North Carolina doors in November 2019, and in March, we welcomed clients, family, and friends to our fully operational facility. Since then, we have grown the team, developed capabilities, and increased capacity. With the final testing, calibration and commissioning of a new large-format (26m x 6.2m x 3m) CMS Poseidon 5-axis machining center, identical to our machine in Bristol RI, the Statesville facility has already produced tooling for customers in the diverse industries of Art & Architecture, Renewable Energy, and Marine.

Statesville Plant Manager, Andrew McDonald, says of the new staff, “some talent from our Rhode Island location relocated to North Carolina, but we are primarily capitalizing on the incredible composites experience in the Statesville area.”

With the North Carolina factory fully functional and complimenting plants in Rhode Island and Nevada, Symmetrix is uniquely positioned to service customers across a wide range of markets and geographies. “We have not just doubled equipment but also our workforce,” says President, John Barnitt. “We have expanded our engineering team, sales, and project management support staff to assist our clients with whatever project they may need.”

Growing demand for accurate geometry and tooling in the marine, aeronautical, infrastructure, and automotive sectors is driving development initiatives throughout the Symmetrix group. McDonald noted the introduction of metrology at the Statesville site. “Our FARO® laser tracker and Verisurf software will measure and compare tooling surfaces to the 3D CAD model geometry with sub-millimeter accuracy without limitation due to size. It will provide near real-time confirmation that a project is on track.” The North Carolina plant will also see the addition of a larger, fully climate-controlled paint booth in the coming year.
